Monsters are the creatures that roam the world of Elder Tale. They live almost anywhere and attack those who dare to venture their path. A threat to the People of the Land, monsters are the main enemies of the Adventurers and a source of their income, experience and items. In the anime, monsters leave meat or skin behind, while Raid Boss monsters drop equipment and valuable items.[1]

OverviewEdit

Typical of any role-playing game, players face against Monsters for items and gold. After the Catastrophe, though, Adventurers found that fighting them was much more difficult due to the physical and mental strength required. Monsters had little-to-no intelligence, however, making them easy to outsmart and control.

Several months after the Catastrophe, things began to change.Monsters were gaining intelligence, beginning to use battle formations and training their members. Furthermore, Raid Bosses no longer contain themselves to their own zones, now demonstrating the capability to team up against the Adventurers.

Monsters' souls are green in color.

Monster RanksEdit

Monsters are divided into different ranks depending on their difficulty.

Normal RankEdit

Most monsters belong to this rank. Designed to be easily defeated by Adventurers of the same level with simple skills and store bought equipment, these monsters are perfect for 1-on-1 fights.

Name Level Description
Ascot Crab 4-8 Nicknamed "apricot" due to its bright shell, the Ascot Crab ranges from one to two meters in terms of body length. Despite its large size and high defense, it has low intelligence and is quite predictable, making them suitable as training partners for beginners.
Brier Weasel 8-46 Brier Weasels are small demonic beasts shaped like weasels. They have glowing red eyes, rounded ears, long sleek bodies with a brown uppercoats and white bellies and short tails entwined by magical vines. They are not considered to be very strong individually, but can be troublesome in large groups.
Goblin 5-46 An infamous Demi-Human type monster, Goblins are short, ugly and skinny creatures standing 150 cm in height. They are one of the evil forces in the North East region of the Yamato archipelago, known for their tenacity, strong reproduction abilities, cruelty and evil nature. A lone Goblin is no match for an Adventurer of intermediate strength or higher, but the Goblins can make up for this deficiency with sheer force of numbers and a variety of types. Their true danger to people is when they unite to form armies of tens of thousands and swarm across the land.
Goblin Shaman 21-33 Among the Goblin forces exist the Goblin Shamans. They are known for having magical prowess and the ability to cast several spells. Their spell repertoire consists of mostly low level spells, making them difficult opponents for inexperienced players. Though not a powerful threat on their own, Goblin Shamans can be troublesome when allied with Goblins of different jobs.
Rat-Man 15-45 Rat-Men are Demi-Human monsters whose levels range from 15 to 45. They are humanoid rats, standing on their hind legs with the height of that of a middle schooler, covered with smooth and seemingly moist fur. They are known for wearing articles of clothing notably scarfs around their necks and also for carrying and using weapons like knives.
Sahuagin 22-48 A humanoid creature that lives in lakes and oceans, it has the appearance of a fish and varies from 120 to 170 centimeters in height. Its skin color ranges from light blue to dark blue with white bellies. Although it is more active underwater, it can walk on land for a few hours. It has a curious nature and views humans as enemies, ferociously attacking them with its claws, spear, sword or trident. Sahauagin are very much like goblins and rely on sheer force of numbers to overcome intermediate and higher level opponents.
Skeleton 11-63 Skeletons are the most well known kind of Undead monsters. Formed when graveyard or dungeon bones are injected with a certain magical power, the Skeleton, with its body of bones, is very light and fast but has low durability. Often times equipped with the weapons and armors they used when they were alive, Skeletons are slightly stronger than an average fighter.
Skeleton Archer 12-67 A reanimated Skeleton equipped with bow and arrows, the Skeleton Archer is a formidable opponent with ranged attacks.
Undine 19-43 Undines are spirits with the ability to control water. With their powerful abilities and beautiful appearance, Undines are quite popular amongst Summoners who can make a contract with them after fulfilling specific quests. After the Catastrophe, their ability to produce water makes adventurers hold them in high regard.

Party RankEdit

Monsters of this rank can be found mostly in dungeons. The Party Rank can be further divided into different ranks. These are Party x2, x3 up to x6. The number represents the Adventurers of the same level needed to fight the monster on equal terms. For instance, a monster with the rank of Partyx4 would require four Adventurers of the same level.

Raid RankEdit

Raid rank monsters can usually be found in the deepest parts of large dungeons and at the end of highly difficult quests. Similar to Party rank monsters, monsters of the Raid rank can be further classified into four: x1 up to x4. A x1 rank needs 24 people in a Full Raid while a x4 rank needs 96 people in a Legion Raid.

Minion RankEdit

Monsters summoned by other monsters with Summoner techniques belong to the Minion rank. The lowest ranking monsters, monsters of the Minion rank are only two-thirds as strong as Normal monsters.

Genius MonstersEdit

Main article: Genius

"Genius" Monsters (written as "calamity" but read as "genius") are strange, grotesque Monsters unlike any other in Elder Tale's history. Despite initial assumptions that they were created for the Homesteading the Noosphere expansion, that is not the case; the meta-knowledge and capabilities they possess are far greater than any ordinary monster could have.
